01Who we are
ALTs Ventures Ltd is a company incorporated in England and Wales with company number 16267901, whose registered office is at 5th Floor, 167-169 Great Portland Street, London W1W 5PF. In this policy, “ALTs Ventures”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean ALTs Ventures Ltd.
We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it is used.
If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, email us at contact@alts.ventures.
02Who this policy covers
This policy applies to:
- visitors to this website;
- people who contact us, by email or otherwise;
- founders, co-investors, advisers, donors, partners and others we deal with in the course of our business, including when we evaluate an investment, a new venture or a programme.
If you invest in, or alongside, a company we have formed, the privacy notice provided with your investment documents applies to that investment.
03The personal data we collect
- Identity and contact data: your name, job title, organisation, email address, telephone number and postal address.
- Correspondence: what you tell us when you contact us, and our records of our dealings with you.
- Professional data: your role, background and experience, including information you share with us or that is publicly available, for example on your organisation’s website or a professional networking profile.
- Verification data: where the law requires it, information we need to verify your identity and carry out anti-money laundering checks.
- Technical data: your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and when, recorded in our hosting provider’s server logs.
We do not intentionally collect special category data, such as data about health, and we ask you not to send it to us. This website is not intended for children and we do not knowingly collect data about them.
04How we collect it
- From you, when you email or call us, meet us, or send us material.
- From others, such as the organisation you work for, people who introduce you to us, our portfolio companies and partners, and public sources.
- Automatically, through the server logs kept when your browser requests a page from this website.
05How we use it, and our lawful basis
Data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for each use of your personal data. The table sets out what we do and the basis we rely on.
| What we do | Data used | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Respond to your enquiries and correspondence | Identity and contact, correspondence | Our legitimate interests in running our business and responding to people who contact us |
| Evaluate and carry out investments, new ventures, programmes and partnerships | Identity and contact, correspondence, professional | Our legitimate interests in identifying, assessing and supporting opportunities |
| Manage our relationships with founders, co-investors, advisers, donors and partners | Identity and contact, correspondence, professional | Performance of a contract with you, where there is one; otherwise our legitimate interests |
| Send you news or updates you have asked to receive | Identity and contact | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
| Run, secure and fix this website | Technical | Our legitimate interests in keeping the website available and secure |
| Meet our legal and regulatory obligations, including anti-money laundering checks | Identity and contact, verification | Compliance with a legal obligation |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have weighed our interests against your rights and are satisfied that they are not overridden. You can ask us for details of that assessment.
07International transfers
Some of our service providers process data outside the United Kingdom.
Where personal data is transferred outside the UK to a country without UK adequacy regulations, we rely on an appropriate safeguard, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses, or, for certified US recipients, the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. You can ask us for a copy of the safeguard at contact@alts.ventures.
08How long we keep it
- Enquiries and general correspondence: normally up to 2 years after our last contact with you.
- Records of investments, ventures and transactions: for as long as the relationship lasts and normally 6 years afterwards, in line with the time limits for legal claims and the requirements for tax and company records.
- Verification data: for as long as the anti-money laundering rules require, normally five years after the relationship ends.
- Server logs: for the period our hosting provider needs them to run and secure the website.
We may keep data for longer if there is a complaint, a legal claim or a regulatory requirement to do so.
09How we keep it safe
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Access is limited to people who need it for their work and who are bound by a duty of confidentiality. We have procedures for dealing with a suspected data breach and will tell you and the regulator where the law requires us to.
10Your rights
Subject to certain conditions and exceptions, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your data;
- ask us to restrict how we use your data;
- object to our use of your data where we rely on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time;
- ask us to transfer data you have given us to you or to another organisation; and
- withdraw your consent, where we rely on it, without affecting anything we did before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these rights, email contact@alts.ventures. There is normally no fee. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within one month, or tell you if we need longer.
12Links to other websites
This website links to other websites, including those of our portfolio companies and partners. We are not responsible for how they handle personal data, and we encourage you to read their privacy notices.
13Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk. If you are in the European Economic Area, you may complain to the data protection authority in your country.
